10:00pm
A benefit for WomenSpace featuring Pete’s Dragon Rose Band and Tour Heads Caravan
Originally created as a side project in 2008, The BeatCrunchers quickly grew in scope to start carving their own niche in the NW music scene. Borrowing members from bands such as Macaco Velho, Samba Ja, Kef, and the Klezmonauts, the group draws from a variety of genres and sensibilities to form a fresh and distinct sound.
The Beat Crunchers are fresh, funky, and live. They get the booty shaking and keep it shaking with their mighty Brazilian percussion and exuberant horns. The Beat Crunchers take you on a breathless tour of the world’s best dance parties, Afropop to Balkan to Cumbia. This is a band that turns everything it touches to a divine rug-cutting boogie-down, be it a childhood cartoon theme song or a funked-up Rachmaninov prelude. The Beat Crunchers resist boxes, and enable you lovely dancers to do the same.

Matt Noble – bass, vocals

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
—
Is there an age requirement?
Due to the content of the show, we request all audience members be 21 years of age or older.
—
Is there a drink minimum / will there be food & drink at the event?
No, there is not a drink minimum but it would be great for you to get a food and/or drink item and support the venue that lets us put this show on!
—
Can we get high inside the venue?
No. This is not a dab lounge or an indoor smoking venue. That being said, we DO take an intermission for a reason and what you do once you leave the venue is your own business. We won’t stop you and we aren’t snitches.
—
Can we get high with the comedians?
We book the comedians to be comedians. That means they are only required to tell jokes, get a little high and tell more jokes. If they want to do the high part with everyone, we encourage it. Otherwise, it’s more about creating a comfortable environment for these comedians to get stoned without having to worry about interaction with people. Some of the comedians do not regularly smoke and it is important that we keep them relaxed. We don’t want them to have a freak out because one of you is too intense. We all have that friend.

Tennessee-based duo O’Connor Lee (Kate Lee and Forrest O’Connor) earned national recognition as co-lead singers and primary songwriters of the O’Connor Band, a group they co-founded along with Forrest’s father, seven-time CMA Award-winning violinist Mark O’Connor. They wrote the majority of the band’s first album, Coming Home, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Albums Chart and won a GRAMMY Award in 2017.
Both independently and as part of the O’Connor Band, O’Connor and Lee have collaborated with Paul Simon, Zac Brown, Kenny Loggins, Clint Black, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Dan Tyminski, and many others. Their music has accumulated more than half a million streams on Spotify, and they have performed at the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, and Fenway Park, as well as some of the most prominent festivals and performing arts centers around the country.
O’Connor and Lee were introduced in 2014 by Nashville-based arranger Kris Wilkinson (Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum, Brandi Carlile), who believed their powerful, expressive vocals and writing sensibilities would align. O’Connor, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard and former Tennessee State Mandolin Champion, shared a love of ‘60s classic rock, ‘70s folk rock, ‘90s country, bluegrass, and modern pop music with Lee, a Belmont graduate and violinist who frequently backed up stars ranging from John Legend and Kelly Clarkson to Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood at the CMA Awards and CMA Country Christmas shows. They soon began performing together as a duo, and their first EP, The Demonstration, reached #13 on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart with no label or promotion campaign. After performing for three years with the O’Connor Band, they’re excited to release their debut full-length duo album on Compass Records in the first part of 2020.

The Jessika Smith/Roger Woods Big Band is a new and exciting project by Saxophonists and

standard Jazz literature, and also dips a toe into newer concepts of orchestrating culminating
with additional textures on top of the aforementioned “Jazz tradition.”
The band includes some of the best players in Oregon, including Saxophonists Joe Manis,
Nicole McCabe, Wes Georgiev and Sam Reid; Trumpeters Paul Krueger, Quinn Walker and
Katrina Lane; Trombonists Matt Hettwer, Joe Freuen, Adriana Wagner and Stephen Young;
