Back Porch Soiree plays a wide range of string style music with vocals and harmonies from all members. Their style encompasses folk, bluegrass, celtic, cajun, country, swing and more. It was once described as, “It’s a mouthful, but boy is it fun.”
Erika Gabonay: A coal miner’s granddaughter from the hills of Appalachia turned Oregonian, singer-songwriter Erika Gabonay’s music conveys her uncommon perspective. Her songs are flavored with Americana and folk, and their lyrics vacillate between depth and playfulness. Once described as “Jewel meets Old Crow Medicine Show,” she switches easily between guitar techniques as her sweet vocals open channels from the ear to the heart.

Originally created as a side project in 2008, The BeatCrunchers quickly grew in scope to start carving their own niche in the NW music scene. Borrowing members from bands such as Macaco Velho, Samba Ja, Kef, and the Klezmonauts, the group draws from a variety of genres and sensibilities to form a fresh and distinct sound.
The Beat Crunchers are fresh, funky, and live. They get the booty shaking and keep it shaking with their mighty Brazilian percussion and exuberant horns. The Beat Crunchers take you on a breathless tour of the world’s best dance parties, Afropop to Balkan to Cumbia. This is a band that turns everything it touches to a divine rug-cutting boogie-down, be it a childhood cartoon theme song or a funked-up Rachmaninov prelude. The Beat Crunchers resist boxes, and enable you lovely dancers to do the same.

How many artists have been praised a “punk rock provocateur,” “jazz vibraphone visionary,” and “percussion virtuoso” in the same sentence? There’s only one: Mike Dillon. Whether through his affiliation with artists like Les Claypool, Primus, Rickie Lee Jones, and Ani Difranco, or collaborations such as Nolatet, Garage a Trois, The Dead Kenny G’s, Critters Buggin or bands he has led, including Mike Dillon Band, Mike Dillon’s New Orleans Punk Rock Percussion Consortium, Billy Goat and Hairy Apes BMX, the Texas-native has set his own standard for 25 years now. life-is-not-a-football-600x600Over the past decade, Mike Dillon has released a number of acclaimed albums, intertwining a range of influences from Zappa-esque eccentricity to Fishbone punk funk, D.C. Go-Go to Milt Jackson-influenced vibraphone majesty. Never before, however, has he recorded music so personal and committed to a sustained mood as his latest album, Functioning Broke. The recording finds Dillon solo on vibraphone and various percussion, building each track into its own minimalist, but multi-dimensional auditory landscape.
