In an era where imitation is the rule of thumb, Walk Talk is staking their claim to the groovy avant-garde of post-pop panache. A delicious duet much-buzzed about in the Northeast, Walk Talk is born of the musical partnership of Mayteana Morales and David Bailis. The prolific pair of NYC-based multi-instrumentalists are well-acquainted, nearly a decade deep touring the globe as two-fifths of the critically-acclaimed future-funk outfit Pimps of Joytime.
Walk Talk identifies as a culmination of time, genre, travel, rhythm, and dance; manifesting love variations and soul vibrations through original songcraft and electrifying live performance. The longtime co-conspirators have re-emerged as an exciting new and dynamic duo; Walk Talk offers a fresh and inspired take on classic 60’s Soul, High-Life Afro-rhythms, quiet storm R&B, golden-era Hip-Hop, boogie Funk, and blissfully beyond. Morales and Bailis steadily unveil a creative canvas on which these passionate artists draw original soundscapes, rhythms, and sensualized harmonies, intoxicating elixirs that resonate deeply across a wide swath of demographics and genres.
“Our sounds aim straight for the heart, with the knowledge that we are all connected by shared experiences, and that each beat and melody should not be taken for granted.” Mayteana Morales & David Bailis: Walk Talk
Percussionist/vocalist extraordinaire, Mayteana Morales needs no introduction, her list of collaborators includes Afrobeat stalwarts Antibalas; she appears on their celebrated 2017 LP Where the Gods Are in Peace. Mayteana is the featured vocalist on legendary funk drummer Bernard Purdie‘s recent comeback smash “Deep in Love” as well as next-generation Brooklyn Afro-funkers Ikebe Shakedown’s debut LP. Morales and David Bailis shared discography with Pimps of Joytime is well-documented. Bailis is no stranger to the world of hip-hop, having toured with Fugees-affiliate John Forte. David has also written and performed with Sierra Leone born, Brooklyn, NY-bred Bajah & the Dry Eye Crew. His guitar-wizardry can be heard spraying textures within his own jazz-rock trio DB3, whose debut record was released in July 2018 on the venerable Ropeadope Records.

AKA Rich Sellers: The lead singer and Band leader has always prided himself on being a professional on and off stage. He recently was able to spend time at one of the oldest marinas and yacht clubs in San Francisco, The Aeolian Yacht Club. His main duty was to be in charge of the Launch Ramp but also managed its famous Friday Night gatherings. RJ has been playing music since he was in grade school and when he is not singing or playing the congas he prefers to relax in ancient roman style bath houses with as many friends he can get.

AKA Jon Raden Judd Thunder started playing drums in high school and has worked in many projects since his first hair band. This includes a variety of 80’s cover bands including Eurasia, UB69, Dick Astley and Jon Bovi. Jud Thunders likes watching the movie, Moby Dick when he is not rehearsing or performing, and has it saved on his computer, iPhone and iPad, for easy access.

AKA Joe Freuen Adding to the Ginger Bread Horn section, Rusty blows a good bone.

AKA Zac Johnson: Is our only real multi talented musician. As well as playing Bass he can play almost every instrument including the lute, bouzouki, and Koto but he prefers the oboe. CAB is very lucky to be blessed with the talents of Jeff and one of the only reasons he is in CAB is because of his very close friendship with RJ. He has his doctorate of ancient instruments and recently earned his PHD from the unaccredited University of Redwood. Jeff also double majored in Nautical Engineering and manufactured his own Sailboat.

AKA Paul Wurster: Since the polygamous marriage last year Leif has been very focused on performing while at the top his game. He spends the majority of his days rehearsing and getting ready for “the next gig”. He started playing guitar at a very young age likes tuning his instrument to get the most velvety sound possible. John and Leif are the only members to commute to the gigs because they live in a compound in eastern Oregon inside John Day.

AKA Ben Scharf: Chaz recently won a scoring award for the softcore movie “Candy and Apples”. The film was only released on Betamax and LaserDisc formats. The soundtrack only is available via 8 track tapes.

AKA Sean Flannery: John recently started playing the saxophone last year because it’s “smooth and helps get women”. Leif and John recently became aware they were dating the same woman and decided it was best to join forces into a polygamous relationship with her. She has since married three other men and the sextuplet recently started a religious band that performs in Mormon stake centers in and around greater Idaho and eastern Oregon.

Eric Leadbetter was born in the town of Bozeman, MT. His musical career started in 2003 when he recorded his first solo album, Eric’s cosmic kitchen. He then moved to Boulder, CO in 2004 when he started playing out in local coffee shops and small bars. In 2006 he established the rock n roll band, Jive Coulis with some good friends from high school. Since then they traveled to over 20 states performing. Jive was dis-banded in 2017 and Leadbetter Band was Born.
Currently, he lives in Central Oregon and plays gigs constantly. Whether solo, duo, or full band he is always gigging. Last year in 2017 he played 220 plus shows, a personal record. His music is very unique and original, with ghostly echoes of the golden age of rock from the 60s-70s. And it should be, since he draws his musical inspiration from these eras by listening to a vast collection of classic vinyl.
“I want my music to not only reach people’s ears in a sweet and engaging way, but also to challenge the mind and inspire the heart and soul. I have creatively explored music very deeply in my life, and I see no end to the amount of musical wisdom to be gained and understood. It is a real treat for me to be able to share my musical expression with people that are open and willing.”
